Perfect Match is Cornell's student-run dating platform, serving 5,000+ users each cycle. I joined as an engineer and eventually became Head of Engineering - which meant owning the technical direction of a system where the output is real human connections, and getting it wrong has real consequences.
Beyond the algorithm work:
Architected a Flask microservice for a live analytics dashboard, handling real-time data for 5,000+ active users. Used MongoDB Map-Reduce for aggregation and server-side caching for latency.
Overhauled the frontend for improved UX and integrated a microservices backend to improve system modularity and scalability.
Automated personalized engagement emails via cron jobs - grew active users by 600+.
Ran marketing strategy alongside the technical work: 185% increase in Instagram engagement. Engineering leadership at a student org means you do both.
DTI is Cornell's premier engineering-focused product org - structured like a small tech company, building real products used by real people on campus and beyond.
Carriage - Technical PM (Spring 2023 – Fall 2023)
Carriage is Cornell's accessible transportation platform, used by students with disabilities to request on-demand rides. I led a team of 7 developers, which was as much about process and communication as it was about code.
Established a real testing infrastructure - Cypress for frontend E2E, Mocha + Chai + Supertest for backend - achieving 94% test coverage across the application. Before this, coverage was minimal. Technical debt accumulates in student orgs faster than anywhere else.
Dockerized the deployment pipeline and implemented Kubernetes for resource management. CI/CD via GitHub Actions.
Managed the project roadmap and stakeholder relationships - the "customers" in this case were students with disabilities who depended on the app working reliably. That raised the stakes.
Carriage - Developer (August 2022 – Fall 2023)
Improved accessibility across the website and overhauled the authentication flow.
Reduced backend API calls by 90%, cutting DynamoDB operations and lowering AWS costs significantly.
Design @ Cornell (March 2022 – August 2022)
Built and maintained a responsive website using React and Express as part of a five-person dev team.
Redesigned the homepage to improve user engagement.
Cornell Wushu is a competitive martial arts club focusing on Chinese martial arts forms and performance. I joined as a member freshman year, was elected Secretary sophomore year, and became Vice-President junior year.
Secretary (September 2022 – May 2023)
Kept 40+ members updated on practices, socials, performances, and competitions through bi-weekly emails and website updates. Also rebuilt the club website (see Projects).
Vice-President (May 2023 – May 2024)
Worked with the President and Practice Leaders to run practices and help newer members develop their forms.
Planned and arranged events, including competition prep sessions and public performances.
